Dog Treat Recipes

Meat and Cheese Dog Biscuits

2 Cps. Whole Wheat Flour

1/2 cp Shredded Cheddar Cheese

1/4 cp. melted fat (beef, lamb or bacon)

Cold Water

*Preheat oven to 400 degrees F

Mix flour, cheese and fat in a bowl.  Add cold water one tablespoon at a time and knead until you have a stiff dough that you can gather into a ball.  Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness.  Cut into treats and bake on an ungreased cookie sheet for 10 minutes.

Marvelous Mutt Meatball  (These ground beef meatballs are a tasty treat for dogs and people, too!)

1 lb Ground Beef (or ground sirloin)

2/3 cp Grated Cheddar Cheese

1 Carrot, finely chopped or grated

1 cp. Bread Crumbs

2 Eggs, whisked

3 TBSP Tomato Paste (low sodium)

*Preheat oven to 350 degrees F

Combine all ingredients in a medium sized bowl.  Scoop out by the spoonful and roll into mini-sized meatballs.  Place the meatballs on a cookie sheet sprayed with nonfat cooking spray.  Bake for 15 to 20 minutes.  Cool and store in the refrigerator in a container with a lid.

Apple Cinnamon Dog Training Bits

4 cps Whole Wheat Flour

1/2 cp Cornmeal

1 Egg

2 TBSP Vegetable Oil

1 tsp Cinnamon

1 Small Apple, grated

1 1/3 cps. Water

*Preheat oven to 325 degrees F

In a bowl combine all ingredients except the apple and water.  Grate apple into mixture and add water.  Mix until it starts forming a dough.  Turn out a lightly floured surface.  knead well.  Roll out to 1/4 - 1/2 inch thick.  Take a straight edge and score the dough horizontally then vertically to make a grid of 3/4 inch squares.  Be careful not to cut through the dough completely.  Place the dough on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with a nonstick spray.  Bake for 1 hour.  Break apart for storage.
